If I'm going to have a mid life crisis and put myself through all this physical and mental suffering then it should be for some greater purpose. Otherwise it really is just madness.

I have chosen to attempt to raise money for both Macmillan Cancer Support and Re~Cycle.

Both Sally and I have had close family members who have died of cancer. Macmillan offer not only practical help in the form of their nurses but also financial and counselling services for sufferers and their families. Full details of their work can be found at www.macmillan.org.uk.

Re~Cycle are a much smaller charity. Their idea is simple; to take unwanted bicycles from the UK and ship them to Africa. Some bikes are refurbished in the UK by volunteeers whilst 'dead' bikes are sent out for spares or converted into tools.
